Leave Atlanta south to Hamilton near Warm Springs and Columbus an area with connections to two past Presidents. Then travel west through the heart of Alabama and Montgomery central to the rise of the civil rights movement, and to Meridian Mississippi. Continue to Vicksburg an important strategic town in the civil war and now a popular tourist destination. The area has been the setting for many films including Mississippi Burning. Head further west to Natchitoches the oldest town in the Louisiana Purchase with a 33 block historic district and the location for Steel Magnolias. Follow the road south through the Kisatchie National Forest to Lake Charles, at the heart of Cajun Country. The journey then continues to New Orleans via the charming little town of St Francisville, with its magnificent oaks and impressive mansions.
