The first night of the holiday is in The Olde English District of South Carolina with picture postcard pretty towns. Then head west ‘upcountry’ following the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway from Gaffney. The region has wonderful scenery and Indian heritage. The route then follows the Savannah River National Scenic Byway down to Augusta and Aiken in Thoroughbred Country where a blend of museums and stately houses detail the area’s unique architecture. On to the coast at Charleston, which has had a starring role in South Carolinas history for over 300 years and then to Georgetown with its opulent townhouses and rich antebellum past.
