A Fly-Drive Holiday
From the gateway city of Denver head north via Lusk, Wyoming to Custer State Park, South Dakota, with its Bison herds. Nearby are Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial as well as the Badlands National Park. Follow the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway and on through the Black Hills National Forest to Deadwood, famous for many characters now resting in Boot Hill Cemetery. From the Black Hills travel via Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway with it's autumn colours rivaling anything in New England, west past the Devil's Tower (featuring in Close Encounters) to Clearmont. Follow the Big Horn Scenic Byway, through Cody Country, past Buffalo Bill State Park and on to Yellowstone National Park. From Yellowstone travel south parallel to the Grand Teton Range taking a detour to the Western town of Jackson and to Lander. Enjoy the hot springs at Saratoga before returning to Denver via the Snowy Range Scenic Byway.
