Hawaii

Located in the Pacific Ocean, to the south of the Tropic of Cancer lies Hawaii, a chain of volcanic islands each with its own character. Throughout the islands you will find a warm welcome, breath-taking scenery, a wealth of activities, sightseeing opportunities and unrivalled beaches. Choose one island and stay put, or island hop, plan a self-drive tour of the Big Island or take a small ship cruise for a completely different perspective.

THE BIG ISLAND

From dazzling white peaks of snow-capped mountains to black lava deserts, the youngest and largest of the Hawaiian Islands has 11 of the 13 climate types. Filled with ancient temples to explore and fabulous beaches the opportunities for sightseeing, snorkelling and surfing are extensive. Mother Nature excels herself at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to Mount Kilauea which has been erupting since 1983. Eerie volcanic moon like landscapes dominate the area.

MAUI

Maui’s beaches are often voted among the best in the world and one of them is Kaihalulu which is the only volcanic red sand beach on the Pacific. Walk above the clouds at Haleakala Crater and hike colourful landscapes and tropical areas flaunting cascading waterfalls. Humpback whales glide through pristine waters and many whale watching tours are available to observe these beautiful creatures.

OAHU

The busiest island is home to numerous historic landmarks, fabulous beaches and a varied and colourful nightlife. Take a surfing lesson on world-famous Waikiki Beach in Honolulu or explore Pearl Harbor and the memorial there. Turquoise waters and soft white sand make the beaches some of America’s finest and some of the best snorkelling in Hawaii can be found here.

KAUAI

A lush green vision of paradise summarises this island which is essentially a single volcano. The smallest and most densely vegetated its nickname is, quite rightly, ‘The Garden Isle’. Beautiful beaches and stunning sea caves are a pleasure to explore and waterfalls plunge down the mountains providing beautiful views. The setting for many Hollywood films, including Jurassic Park, the island is in itself scene stealing.

LANAI

Secluded, tiny and intimate this island is an escapist’s dream. There are two resorts offering unashamed luxury in an idyllic setting. Lunar-like rock formations can be found adding to the remote atmosphere of this beautiful part of the world.
